Major gifts help a campaign achieve a monetary goal, but we strongly feel that a campaign is an opportunity to do much more. We approach the campaign with four measurable outcomes in mind: the monetary goal and vision for your organization, increased visibility and public awareness, a dramatically increased donor base, and a more effective and efficient development program.
Our Pre-Campaign Survey, commonly referred to as a feasibility study, initiates a successful campaign by accomplishing critical preparatory work. It evaluates donor interest in your vision and funding objectives; clarifies, customizes and individualizes concerns of top donors; identifies leadership giving and volunteer potential; identifies special gift types and their potential, such as planned giving; and sets challenging but attainable goals for the campaign.
Many funding sources are now requiring strategic plans before consideration for support. Many foundations, corporations and more sophisticated philanthropists are using this approach to ensure that requests they support align with their philosophies and strategic initiatives. A well-developed plan can be both a management tool and a leadership tool, providing a common rallying point for the organization and its external constituents. A dynamic, comprehensive, forward thinking plan can be used to evaluate progress over time, assess individual accomplishments, provide the basis for further refinement, and provide a course correction if needed.
We compare the effectiveness of the organization’s development and communications efforts with sixteen metrics modified from the American Institute of Management’s early work on Performance Auditing, and derive information from documentary, observational, and testimonial evidence to ensure we completely understand the areas where the organization is already doing well and pinpoint other areas for improvement. We also focus on the three core areas of communication essential to any not-for-profit’s success: communication that creates a climate conducive for the organization to thrive, communication that creates gift revenue, and communication that is specific to the organization’s mission.
